Nantgaredig v Llangadog

Nant dog it out

Division 6 West
Llangadog 7 - Nantgaredig 11

Despite their recent success Nantgaredig travelled to Llangadog with trepidation, having only beaten their hosts once in 40 years and never away.
Nant chose to play with the very strong wind. Llangadog ran everything, however the disadvantage of the wind meant that this was from their own half. Good Nant defence forced penalties at the breakdown, one of which was missed and one kicked by Meirion Davies.
Llangadog kept running everything and maintained possession. Nantgaredig defence was less effective when Llangadog ran from deep but held firm under pressure on their own line for a sustained period of Llangadog attacks, although the home side may feel aggrieved that they had a try disallowed. Eventually the pressure was relieved and Llangadog were pushed back. Again Llangadog ran from deep, again good Nant defence resulted in a penalty kicked by Davies.
Llangadog were only kicking rarely, however one loose kick was returned by Bleddyn Lewis who got support from Iwan Evans; from the breakdown the ball went to Barry Thomas who dummied and ran 40 metres to put Simon Griffiths in for a try. The conversion was missed.
Soon after, Nant almost had another try but were let down by the last pass after an initial midfield break by Bleddyn Lewis.

Turning around, the points advantage was with Nant although importantly the wind was with Llangadog. From a loose kick the Llangadog wing broke out of defence and a tremendous run was only stopped by a last ditch tackle by that man Bleddyn Lewis.
Llangadog started keeping the ball tight, feeling they had dominance from the bigger pack, well bossed by scrum half Adrian Williams and after pressure at the breakdown, Nant conceded a penalty and Iwan Evans thinking that he was still wrestling in the Ukraine, was yellow carded.
This now called for the pack which was already up against, it being much smaller than their opponents to redouble their efforts, Front row substitution added some dog if not bulk and they were able to hold off an attacking scrim with 7 men but eventually the extra man told as Llangadog kept the pressure on scored a converted try from a driving Maul. The close defence by Nant was very strong as Llangadog threw everything at them. Llangadog came again and were again denied a try from a maul being held up by the committed defence.
Llangadog enjoyed more possession and territory, but failed to capitalise and Nantgaredig were able to cling on to come away with a historic win
